How to motivate employees?

Employees want your attention, appreciation for good things they do or the ideas they give. At whatever stage the employee may be working he wants to be respected.

Today, majority of the organisations have problems like bigger portion of their workforce is disengaged or some of the employees are actively disengaged.

Why the employees get disengaged? They feel that they are not valued or their contribution is not getting recognized. Managers or team leaders have capability gaps, they don’t pay attention to the human aspect. Managers keep all their attention on their daily work priorities and provide less guidance to subordinates.

Work planning by managers is done in closed room and often the planning is not properly communicated to the shop floor employees. Tasks are given and employees are asked to do the task. No guidance, no proper training, importance of the task is not told. and Do as I Said is the attitude which causes problem.

Employees feel very bad if managers and superiors don’t treat them well. Feedback is often personalized like “You are not worth doing anything” . This kind of feedback offends the employees.

Feedback should be concrete, factual and evidence based and should focus on task affected and not on the person.

Employees must be trained for job they will be required to be doing. Refresher training must be provided. Employees should be encouraged to upgrade their knowledge and work environment should be free from politics, bias and bullying. Respect must be given to all levels of employees.
